O Death

ABOUT

Works by Annie Martin

O Death is a multidisciplinary project that began as a conversation between artist Annie Martin and new music vocalist Janice Isabel Jackson. Sharing an interest in songs in which the singer addresses death as an interlocutor, we began an ongoing exchange. Out of this conversation a sequence of lyric poems emerged which Janice is setting as songs. These songs and the attendant reflection gave rise to the drawings and paintings in this exhibition.

Central to this immersive process has been our sense that death is intertwined with and woven into life, and that life and death sustain one another. The mystery of encountering death is integral to our lives as we live them.

It is our hope that the space we have created in words, painting and song will invite and sustain reflection and conversation.  Annie Martin has invited several artist’s collaborations to take place during the course of the exhibition.
