The Cardiff/Miller House – Tiny House

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to go check out the opening reception for The Cardiff/Miller House on display at the U of L. I was excited that it was making a stop in Lethbridge as I’d been hearing bits and pieces about the project that John had assisted with before it was displayed at the Alberta Art Gallery in Edmonton this past winter. This Tiny House project, by artist Emily Luce with major collaborators Rodney Sayers and Alan Maten, is a miniature replica on wheels of the well known Cardiff/Miller House in Lethbridge, which has been a home to many artists over the years. Not only does it mirror the historical architectural details of the original house but inside are over 40 tiny art works from artists that are in some way connected to the local house.

If you enjoy this project as much as I do you will be happy to know that this is just the first stage of a multi-part project with future plans to build more tiny replicas of well known artists residences across Canada. For more information about the project and artist statement and more photos, check out the announcement at the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery or Emily Luce’s Blog: Search & Research

Tiny Houses like these are a growing trend that started back in the early 2000’s. Perfect for a minimalist, an artist studio or vacation home, what’s not to love about a beautifully designed home that you can take with you wherever you go? If you’d like to check out more Tiny Houses I’d recommend one of the first companies to start making these homes; the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company.
