Hoarder Tendencies
Kerryanne Wilson
I am a collector by nature. Everyday objects have a life of their own, a character, and energy. I collect objects with a past life, a history made evident by dents, rips, rust, and wear. I am intrigued by natural occurrences of often overlooked objects of the everyday. Like the elegant creases that form when a scarf is draped over a table or how an empty travel bag awkwardly folds as it struggles to hold up its own weight.
It is through painting that I celebrate their humble charm.
With collecting comes organizing, and I am continuously responding to the marks that I collect on the canvas. I both anguish and revel in negotiating the tension that arises from this process. but what is unearthed through this is gratifying. There is a beauty in the moment that an over confident red collides with an awkward, shy and hazy mark; an irritating balance happens that makes sense.
